How long does a BSIS guard card take?

The quick answer is...

  1. (1 Day) Complete the 8-hours training (Part 1).
  2. (1 Day) Submit the application and pay the application fees.
  3. (1 Day) Submit the Live Scan and pay the fees.
  4. (1 Month) Wait for the FBI and Department of Justice (DOJ) to process the fingerprints.
  5. (1-2 Months) Wait for the BSIS to process the application.

The Guard Card will be mailed by the BSIS to the address of record on the application.

Total Time:  3+ months

You can start to work after completing the Power to Arrest and Use of Force 8-hours training. You must return later complete the remaining 32-hours of training (Parts 2 & 3).
